Dr. Grish Mohan Gupta, a Mechanical Engineer and visionary patriot, made a seminal contribution to India’s national security by indigenously developing the Punched Tape Concertina Coil, a high-security fencing system now widely deployed along India’s international borders. In the early 1980s, he chose national service over a prestigious career in the United States, relinquishing his Green Card to return to India in 1982. Without any foreign technology transfer, he designed and manufactured the product entirely in India. His innovation significantly strengthened border defence by curbing infiltration and smuggling. For this achievement, he received the National Award from President R. Venkataraman.
